HERRON BLUE IBUPROFEN
What is it used for?
This medicine contains the active ingredient ibuprofen, which belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
It works by blocking the action of a substance in the body called cyclo-oxygenase. Cyclo-oxygenase is involved in the production of various chemicals in the body, some of which are known as prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are produced in response to injury or certain diseases and would otherwise go on to cause pain, swelling and inflammation. Ibuprofen is therefore used to relieve pain and inflammation.
It is also used for fever (pyrexia), inflammation (anti-inflammatory), mild to moderate pain (especially where inflammation is present).
Is it suitable for me?
All the medicines in this group (NSAIDs) reduce inflammation caused by the body\'s own immune system, and are effective pain killers. Ibuprofen can be used to relieve pain such as muscular aches and pains, period pains, headache, backache, rheumatic pain, dental pain and neuralgic conditions. It can also reduce feverishness and the symptoms and discomfort associated with cold and flu.
Neuralgia - acute spasmodic pain along the course of one or more nerves
Rheumatism - any disorder of the extremities or back, characterised by pain and stiffness

- HERRON Blue Ibuprofen tablets: sugar, yeast, gluten, wheat, soy, artificial colours and preservatives.
- HERRON Blue Ibuprofen tabsules: sugar, yeast, gluten, wheat, soy, artificial colours and preservatives. Contains lactose.
- HERRON Blue Ibuprofen capseals: sugar, dairy products, yeast, gluten, wheat, soy, and preservatives.
Physical Description - Tablets: blue, round film coated tablet with break-bar on side, hint of vanilla flavour.
- Tabsules: blue film coated capsule shaped tablet with break-bar.
- Capseals: half blue and half white, gelatin coated capsules.
Dosage
- Adults and children over 12 years of age: initial dose 2 tablets, then 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours (maximium 6 per 24 hours).
- Children (7 - 12 years of age): 1 tablet every 4-6 hours if necessary. Keep to the recommended dose (maximum 4 per 24 hours).
Do not take this medicine for more than a few days at a time unless advised by a doctor. Not recommended for children under 7 years of age.
Cautions
Do not use if clear "cellophane" over-wrap is broken or missing.
Do not use if foil on blisters is broken.
WARNINGS
Unless a doctor has told you to, don\'t use this product"
- for more than a few days at a time.
- with other medications containing ibuprofen, aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medicines.
- with other medicines you are taking regularly.
- if you have asthma.
- if you are pregnant.
- if you are aged 65 years or over.
Do not take this product if you:
- have a stomach ulcer or other stomach disorder.
- have impaired kidney function or heart failure.
- are in the last three months of pregnancy.
- are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medicines.
